Chocolate Star Bread | Recipe By My Name Is Snickerdoodle (2024)

Chocolate Star Bread is one of the best holiday treats! Layers of tender Rhode’s White Bread with ribbons of chocolate spread. It’s sliced and twisted into a festive star shape then brushed with an egg wash and baked to perfection. The finishing touch is a sprinkling of snow like powdered sugar!

Christmas sweets are so fun to make this time of year. If you looking for some fun recipes I know you will love my Christmas Magic Cookie Bars. Speaking of favorites, my husband loves eggnog so I was fun to put a twist on it with my Holiday Eggnog Pie.

With all of the recipes I researched they called for a homemade enriched dough. I have experience making bread, but I know not everyone does. It can be intimidating and seem overwhelming.

This is why I thought it would be a fabulous idea to use my favorite frozen dough from Rhodes! I always have it on hand in my freezer and it works perfectly in this recipe.

No, it’s Nutella or I know Hershey’s has a chocolate spread. They are usually in the same grocery isle as the peanut butter.

    FAQs

Can I let my sourdough starter rise overnight? ›

You can absolutely leave sourdough bread to rise overnight - but as always - there are some things you'll need to do to make sure that your bread is successful with an overnight ferment.

What happens if I leave my sourdough starter too long? ›

It will thrive until it runs out of food (flour and water) to eat. Then it will die. As long as you keep it fed, it will be fine. In fact, it is recommended that you keep it out of the fridge and feed it for three days before making bread.

What if I forgot my sourdough starter overnight? ›

Don't worry — everything will be just fine. A sourdough starter is often likened to a pet, but unlike a puppy, if you forget to feed it when you're supposed to, nothing bad will happen. Because even though starters are technically alive, they're incredibly resilient.

How long can you leave sourdough to rise overnight? ›

If you don't watch the clock carefully, baker's yeast will puff up the dough to its max and the dough will begin to deflate. Sourdough bread, on the other hand, can easily be left in the fridge for 8-24 hours during the second rise. There is very little risk of the dough over proofing.

Can I let my sourdough rise for 12 hours? ›

It only needs an hour or two to rise fully. A sourdough starter may take up to 12 hours or longer to rise your bread dough. This can be really overwhelming for a new sourdough baker, but you don't actually need to be around while your wild yeast are doing their thing.

How long should sourdough rise overnight? ›

For example, in the summer the dough can take anywhere between 2-4 hours @ 85º F/ 29º C. In the winter, it will take longer about 10-12 hours @ 68º F/ 20º C. Temperature controls time. And remember: because sourdough bread does not contain instant yeast it will take longer to rise.

How long can you let sourdough starter rise? ›

Let your starter rise at room temperature, ideally 75+ F (the warmer it is, the faster it will rise), until bubbly, active and double in size (2-12 hrs). When your starter is at peak height, it's ready to use. Eventually it will fall back down, and become inactive again. Then, you'll need to repeat the feeding process.
